Myrtle in morning sun!!

This is Myrtle with new fog lights, painted hubcaps with silver flake clear laquer, new antenna, MB licenseplate in front, and cleaned up and topped off with his second tank of B100. Myrtle is basking in the sun and drying off after a car wash. I think my 240D is coming along nicely. Ive gotten an offer for $2500 to buy Myrtle, but I stated that Myrtle wasnt for sale, he would rather stay where he is loved and cared for. LOL

Myrtle looks very nice, and those are some nice fogs you ended up with.
BUT, the hubby color needs to match the car color for the correct look. [and the most attractive look]
I'm just sayin'............

The lower black is where I repaired a few 1 inch rust holes, painted them with zinc rich primer, filled with fiberglass bondo hair, sanded, and coated the entire bottom, and lower sides with Line-X truck bed coating. No more rust issues, atleast for awhile anyhow. Jimmy L said that he thought it looked fine, and I agree that it does look better than rust holes, and I really am not interested in a $2000 body repair / paint job. The hub caps look good enough until I can find some bundts, I have decided not to go aftermarket with wheels Jimmy, I like the look of Bundt wheels, maybe 15"

I agree black is better than rust holes- but you can paint over black. 15 bundts? Don't hold your breath.

Too bad you're not closer. I would trade you my Bundts for your steel wheels and hubbies in a heart beat. I can't stand Bundts but I'm having to fight through them on Smash.......
And you're correct. While not looking "bone stock", your black strip down at the bottom looks a lot better than rust, but isn't obtrusive enough to really detract from an otherwise very nice little 240D.

I like the lower black-out (I think I'll copy it)

Can I have some more details on your rust repair? Brands, process, cost, etc?

Hey! You stole my paint!

I love that blue color. That is one of the reasons I wound up with my current 300D. It is an odd color metallic blue. I love it!

Throw some Bundt's on that thing.

Its relatively inexpensive. Those rubber trim pieces on the very bottom just pry off (gingerly), not forcefully, and go back on lightly with a rubber mallet. With the trim removed, you can really get to the nitty gritty of the rust problems. I am not sure where your rust is located. But most W123 rust is in the lower trim areas, especially right behind the front wheels. I got a .250 endmill from work and chucked it up in an angle die grinder, and cut the rust out to bare metal. You can also use a rotary file, or hand file. I then went on the inside the doors and fenders where the holes were, with a small wire brush and brushed it all to shiny metal. Next I liberally sprayed up inside the doors, and behind the fenders where the holes where, with zinc rich primer (AKA rust inhibiting paint), and I mean ALL up inside, as far as the spray would go. I then lightly brushed again with a wire bruch around the inside of the holes down to metal for the bondo to sick to. I used fiberglass bondo because it wont crack or soak up water as bad. Fill the holes with the bondo, and after it dries, sand it flat with the surrounding panels / body. Then go over that with zinc rich primer on the outside. Make sure you dont overspray on your car body, you can tape it off, or whatever you want to do. Lastly, I ran masking tape along the body crease on the bottom, several lines tall, like 3 or 4 layers wide. Cover the wheels, rough up the lower areas with 400 grit sandpaper, then spary on bed liner. You can get it at farm stores, autozone, wherever parts are sold. You can buy it in a spray can, or roll it on. Go ahead and get some of the underside if you can. Then after it dries, you can re install the lower trim. This is all just a general idea of how I did it, you can feel free to change it around or use different tools / materials of course. All in all I think I spent about $100 for all the stuff.

Seller doesn't appear to be the most trust-worthy based on several of their ads, but the hubbies look cool enough. Too bad I didn't see 1 in China Blue.
I have 4 silver ones packed away in the garage already which could go on Smash, just don't have the steel wheels. I guess I could make a PNP run easy enough, just never have room to carry 4 extra wheels.
If I were you I would sure stick with the hubbies, just paint them to match the car color. You will love the look I bet......

I don't think you can paint over black truck bed liner.
I like the look given the circumstances and a lower truck bed liner coat would be a good way to stop rust from the outside in. I think in our cars it is usally inside out (noted that you took precaution there also). But then living in Texas, I've never seen any on mine except under the battery tray. Probably another good place for truck bed liner spray.

Metal flake, clear coat? That's new to me. What kind of surface prep is needed? Probably wouldn't work right over white? Where can I get a high quality paint job for $2k?
