Diesel models since 1996

What is the engine designation of the engine in the 96-97 E300D? Is the engine in the 98-99 E300D a turbocharged version of the same engine or a different engine?

Were there only Diesel sedans (no wagone) in the US from 96-99?

Thanks,
Sixto

They are both OM606 motors. The non-turbo was the 606.020, the turbo is the 606.025. Pretty much hit the nail on the head, just the added turbo and intercooler.

There ya go thinkin' again

In any internal combuston engine, the more oxygen in the fuel/air mixture the better. Cooler air is more dense (the molecules are closer together), so the combustion will contain more molecules of air and therefore more oxygen molecules. This is a good thing!

Thanks for the info.

On that note, does the US 95 E300 have the 603t or 606na?

Thanks,
Sixto

The 124.131 had the 606.910 motor in it, essentially the same motor as in the first 210 Diesels, which was the 606.912 engine. Neither where turbocharged.
As a side note, in case you own a 95, there were only 23,166 124.131's produced in all the years of it's production-worldwide.

Yes, the intercooler, turbo, or anything else you can do to allow the engine to ingest more air allows you to inject more fuel without ill effect. The factory, I'm sure, set up the injection system to add more fuel to take advantage of the turbo and intercooler.

Where the intercooler would do no good, would be if you simply added an intercooler to the intake system and did not turn up the injection system to take advantage of it.

This is why doing the normal breathing modifications to a diesel like every hot rodder has done to their favorit V8, has no real effect unless the injection system is modified. By the same token, turning up the injection system without introducing more air in the cylinders will indeed add some more power, but at the expense of shortened engine life.

Have a great day,
