Wood trim removal question....
The wood on my glove box door is delaminated and somewhat curled at the end...so much so that I don't think it can be straightened. I have a donor car with a better piece of trim BUT I can't seem to figger out how to get the DANG latch off the door so that the wood trim is set free. Anybody got a trick up their sleeve? Thanks

the built in search is not the greatest. Sometimes it's easier to use google.
you could try something like this to limit your search to peachparts: site:http://peachparts.com glove box |

I've been away from the site for a short while and now see this "peachparts" stuff going on. Don't know what it's all about.... Anyway, your tip has revealed some possible answers to my dilema! Thanks again...

grasshopper
Patience, my little grasshopper. Patience.
Okay, open the glove box and there are screws that hold the wood trim of the glove box door onto the glove box door. If I recall, correctly, you have to take of the wood trim, to see how to remove the latch. If you are wanting to swap out the wood and NOT the latch, then, the process is much easier. Just remove the screws toward the center of the door....and I think the one that is in the center toward the passenger door. I think there are 3 screws (wood) that screw into the wood blocks that are glued onto the wood trim. To replace the wood, you only have to take those 3 wood screws out.....then slide the wood trim toward the passenger door, so you don't break the lip around the latch. Maybe someone who is not working can confirm.

Ahhh, my friend, I beg to differ with you! I am talking about a w123. Not sure what chassis you refer to. There are NO screws holding the wood trim onto the door - only small aluminum tabs that protrude thru the door and twisted slightly to hold them in place. Here's the PROBLEM: after the tabs have been counter-twisted or loosened I STILL need to remove the latch assembly in order to slip the wood off the door. The latch / slide actually goes thru a slot or hole in the wood and it (latch) MUST be removed. HELP! Somebody...

WOOHOO! GOT IT!!!!
Holding it in one hand I carefully stood door on its edge on the carpeted floor. I took a rather large flat blade screwdriver and placed it between the latch and the wood trim (CAREFUL NOT TO SCRATCH WOOD!). Had my son gently pull (pry) as I took another flat blade driver on the backside of the latch and pushed (toward to floor) on the latch 'guts' (couple of 'tangs' that slide along a 'rail'). When the two 'tangs' released from the 'rail' on one side we wedged a wooden match stick where the large driver had been and moved to the other side to do the same thing - releasing the latch AND THE WOOD TRIM!!!! (Sorry about not having pictures but I think you get the idea...)

AHHH.....you are talking about a w123 and I'm talking about a w126. See? It's crystal clear......NOW!!!! Congrats on being successful. I'm surprised someone else hasn't asked you WHICH car in your signature you were trying to do this to......you know, there are some "smarts" on the forum.

i only have 126 body cars but on my glove box, there are a couple screws holding the latch assembly onto the door. i find i have to loosen those screws a little bit to allow the latch to loosen up so the wood will slide out.

Yep. Those w126 ones are different. The w123 does NOT have screws holding the latch or trim piece on AND the latch must come out before the trim is removed (unless of course you do not mind breaking it!)...
