1995 e300d hot air issue
Hello,
Here is the problem: the car blows hot air through side vents and cold air through the front vents. I've read many of the posts on this issue, and I am not sure if my model has the "Monovalve", if it does, does anyone have a picture of where its located. Also, is there a way around it, like unplugging the auxilliry water pump? Thanks |

On the W210 it is located next to the computer box on the right side, next to a firewall. Oftentimes a rap or two with a screwdriver handle will fix it.
Search "Kartek" posts from 2-3 months ago. He posted photos. Your's ought to be very similar. I can't find the part on Fastlane. Pretty certain it is #53. http://www.detali.ru/cat/oem_mb2.asp?TP=1&F=124131&M=606%2E910&GA=722%2E435&GM=717%2E433&CT=F&cat=44Q&SID=83&SGR=180&SGN=04

I have the 124.131 chassis, not the 210. Anyhow, I looked around under the hood, and I think I have found the monovalve, and it is shot. There was coolant where its not supposed to be. Now to my next question, can I unplug the electric water pump next to the monovalve until the fall?? I dont want to shell out few hundred dollars if I dont have to.
Thanks |

Search Kartek posts as I said previously.
He rebuilt his. Yours is probably identical.

TMAllison,
I found the monovalve last night, but since it was getting late, I didnt really work on it. I did take it apart, and found antifreeze in the top portion of it, I guess causing a short. I found Kartek's post, and I will try to repair the valve tonight. I dont have the duovalve though, just a monovalve, but hopefully I will be able to fix it the same way. Thanks |

connerm,
Do you have a duovalve or a monovalve? Mine only has a monovalve. The spring in mine is still good, not sure if it has the needed pressure to stop the flow of collant though. The diaphram seems to be good, but doing a blow test through the coolant input, revelas a small air leak leading to the top of the monovalve. The other interesting thing I have noticed is that if the center vents are half way closed, all I get is cold air, but if I open her up all the way, the hot air takes over. Please advise, I really dont want to spend $400 on a valve. Thanks |

Spyder,
I don't know because I didn't take the old one apart. I chucked it. Pushing 225,000, I'm resigned to the fact that its going to need new parts. I couldn't blow through any of the pipes on the new valve. I could blow through all of them on the old one. Fails open I guess.

I installed a 1/2" shut off valve before the monovalve, and so far it seems ok, I took it for a test drive, to make sure my temperature doesnt rise, and it seems to be holding at about 80, if sitting idle for over 20min, it rises to 90+, which is a bit of a concern, but does not go above it. I am at the point where I dont want to sink too much money into this car because I dont have the time to play with it all the time. Its my wife's car, and she drives over 30 minutes to work each way, so I will have to get her something more reliable, but it burns me that i changed the evaporator last year, and that was a two day job, and now a stupid valve, costs around $400. This whole valve is so poorly designed, a simple ball walve with an actuator would have been so much simpler and more reliable.

Yeah, it does seem overly complicated. When I first opened the box, I thought they had sent me a Jarvik artificial heart.
