Were the 93 300sd's Rod Benders?
w140 w/ OM603.971 engine is what im lookin at pickin up. Said it over heats, plan on replacing head.
I was just wondering if these were notorious rod benders as well? I know the 350SDLs were and those had the 603.970 engine. Any differene with the 971s?

I think they were all prone to it, but the issue was minimized/resolved later on with replacement engines. It may or may not have the problem.

I hear that the later models are not as prone to it..but I don't know if '93 counts. How many miles? Also, what makes you think it needs a new head? The .970 came with updated #17 or better heads that shouldn't have any problems.

The engines were fixed in 95, so yes, a 93 may have a bad engine.

well the guy said it ran great, but overheated. Said it could be as simple as a thermostat, but then again he is trying to SELL the car not make a friend =) I just was planning on a headgasket minimum if not a whole new head. I forgot the later ones weren't prone to cracking though, that is an interesting thought. 115k miles 040 BLACKK mmmmm i can already see my 140 body with orange blinkers and 18 inch monos
