C250 revs drop when brake pressed ??

Hi, I have a '96 C250 turbo diesel auto estate.
When the engine is revving, when I touch the footbrake the revs drop - is this normal?
Does anyone have a similar vehicle they can try it on please?

It happens when driving or parked, the engine slows eveytime the brake pedal is pressed & then revs back to normal when the brake pedal is released.

cheers
Chris

It sounds to me like the separation between the vacuum going to the brake power booster and something on the engine is being breached. Perhaps something as simple as a one way valve not working properly in the vacuum lines.
I have no books on cars so new as yours....so this is just a guess....

Thanks, I suspect it may be vacuum related - but knowing Mercedes I would just like to make sure it isn't some sort of economy feature
I would just like to know if anyone else has the same thing happen on their car before I start pulling pipes off!
cheers
Chris

Good plan... and your impression/wariness of Mercedes design is certainly warranted...
