OM603 What are these? Pictures...
In hopes of finding what the block plug looks like exactly, I looked under the SDL and was just wondering what these 2 circled things are. I'm not very good with words so I need some visual clarification.

The white circled item is the block heater connection.

Yes, it is an electric block heater. You buy the cord at PeachParts.com for around $15. I works very well.

I see. I don't know if I would need one where I live...
But I am inclined to believe that the yellow circled plug is the block plug...my only reasoning would be that it fits a 19mm and that it has some sort of nipple for a hose to drain out the water... Am I right or wrong? |

As was said, the thing in the white circle is the block heater. The black plastic cap unscrews; underneath is the electrical connection. The factory cable has a screw fitting that matches the threads but is more expensive.
The thing in the yellow circle is indeed the block drain. You can put a drain hose on it to keep from getting splashed while crawling under the car to loosen the nut (valve). My '87 300D has the same things (same engine). Jeremy

I wonder if one of those 603 block drain plugs would fit a 617? I'd like one for the same reasons.

The same cord, 90degree with the screw lock-ring, is used on zillions of Detroit Diesels, I buy em from Zerostat.

So tell me . . . they put in a block heater, but then you buy the cord seperately? Or did somebody just through the cord out and put thr cap back on?

The story goes that the car came with a coupon for a free cord, installed by the dealer in the first year. I guess some folks didn't bother having it installed. I had to install the cord on my car, as have many others.

Yes, all came installed with the plug... my 6.4 PSD on order does also, but I spent the extra $25 or whatever to have the cord ran before delivery.
