Sometime towards the end of Oct., I put the cover on my 300TD. I was frustrated by a number of minor issues like persistent sticking throttle, some brake issues, and most of all my drivers side door. My door check strap had broken and on one extremely windy day, when i opened the door and the wind caught it and thrust it forward, it no longer had that nice smooth thunk when closing. I had to pretty much slam it. Thinking I had probably bent the hinges, I just put the cover on her, and decided to fight the fight at a later date. It wasn't until mid-April that I finally decided to rally and get her going again. After doing the brakes, and taking the throttle linkage apart, cleaning and lubing, I replaced the shattered throttle pivot thingie at the firewall, new filters and some seafoam and remarkably, she was good to go. The only thing left was the damn door. I took it completely off, including removing the hinges. Not really knowing what I was doing, I managed to re-install it and align it using the passenger side gaps for a rough guide. Hoping for the best I closed it and.... same as before.... had to slam it to close. I hadn't been on this site for ages, so went about getting a new password, and did a search. Turned out to be the striker. I really didn't think this was it, but sure enough, after removing it and ordering a new one and playing around with it a bit, I closed it and much to my surprise it closed with that magical thunk that I love so much. This forum is great. Thanks to all those really knowledgeable members who help the rest of us figure things out.
