55 MPH Lurching

I've got a 1995 300 D with 50,000 miles on it and I love it; I've had it about three years and haven't driven it much. Now I use it all the time.

Lately, when I go on the freeway (fully warmed up) and get to about 55, the car lurches and kinda feels like I'm going to run out of fuel. I think it's getting worse and it doesn't happen all the time. I seems to go away after about 30 seconds and/or when I speed up.

I always run 95/5 diesel/bio in it though it has been converted to biodiesel and I've driven with pure bio in the past.

I know nothing about doing any sort of repairs or diagnostics, so I'm looking for info I can convey to the repair shop.

Thanks in advance for any advice you might have.

Welcome to PeachParts timpdx,

Now, you don't convert a car to run on biodiesel. However, lots of people wrongly use the terms biodiesel and Waste Vegetable Oil interchangeably, and I'm thinking this may be what you're doing. Has your car been converted to use waste oil?

Same symptoms hesitation @ Cruise Speed

My '99 300D with 200+K miles was doing the exact same thing on highway, and it was the fuel hoses, in, out of the filters, heater, IP etc. I replaced the entire lot of them for about $ 50+ in parts. I also replaced the delivery valve O-rings & washers.
Everything is better now. I think I was sucking air some where.
My hoses were brittle and hard, could be he biodiesel degrading yours.

Best of Luck,

The surging issue on the 606.910 is oftentimes a resonance or egr flap issue. They can get gummed up with oily crud in the intake runners and/or the electical transducers controlling the flaps (or wiring) can go bad.

search 95 E300 and surging; should be lots written on it.

Maybe the conversion he mentioned was replacing the fuels lines? As Cessna mentioned, biodiesel will break down the factory fuel lines.
