1985 300TDT wagon california air cleaner
I have the new element but I can't get the top off the container. This is a new one! there's a 13mm hexnut screwed into a stud on top of the unit (sounds like a sexual innuendo, I know) but there's some kind of huge flat washer that won't budge off the top. What gives? I took the unit out and couldn't find any other access to the inside. Anybody have any diagrams of this contraption?
Also the brakes still squeal a bit after putting on factory benz replacement pads. Not a lot, but just enough to be annoying when the windows are down. Aren't there shims or something? Do they need to be replaced? thanks y'all...... |

Can't believe it, finally found a rogue 'T' before Jimmy!! He's still got the ba'T'man though.....
Clips around the edge of the air cleaner lid? What did the rotors look like when you swapped pads?

no clips on my air filter housing (85 300D, Cali) Just the center stud and "nyloc" nut
Is the bolt spinning freely? Or is the nut just stuck? If the stud is spinning, you might be able to back it all the way out or hold it in place from the bottom opening. |

That washer doesn't need to come off the lid. Are you a new owner of the vehicle? I ask because the PO/mechanic may have put some silicon sealant around the lid/canister, which makes it dificult to remove. Just had to pull carefully all around the lid.

Weird. The top cover spins freely but it seems like the flat washer is keeping in on. Man! It won't come off that stud. Should I try heat? Further violaence?
thanks! I'll check the rotors....is there another make of pads that don't squeal like a piggy? My local wazir Harold the Grouch suggested in the future not to use factory Benz pads. |

Well, did you get the lid off??
I took a look at my spare one, removed the nut, and the lid lifted right off. nothing holding it on. I did eat my spinich last night and my Wheaties this morning though. Charlie
