a little search help for a window issue

I know I saw a thread around here that detailed how to correct a slow moving window. I have an SDL with a cranky passenger rear window that needs to be cleaned (I think). If I don't clean it, I think the regulator goes out?

Any way, could some one point me to the thread that details how to handle this situation (if one exists)?

I did look through the DIY section but it was not there (at least that I could see).

No, I have not. I saw the write up on how to remove the door panel in the DIY section. I can do that and examine the regulator.

How would I know if it is broken or worn?

Not sure about "slow" motors but if you open it up you can check on a couple of things. Make sure the nuts are tight and holding the regulator in place properly. Check the condition of the plastic bushing that connects the regulator arm to the channel on the base of the window. You can usually see the grease on the regulator and you can dip your pinky into the window guide channel to see if its still gooey.

I do slow windows a number of times. It can be a number of reasons.

1) slow going up or going down? If it is real slow going up then more lightly is the motor brush.
2) Pitted window switch. Any difference between door switch and driver's master switch. If no different then not the switch.
3) If it is not (2) then you need to open up the panel and check the mechanism and motor.
4) The mechanism is held in place by 3 bolts. Get one from a junk yard it is good to go. Any SDL, SEL would do.

Good luck.

The attached picture is of a motor from my 83. I don't know if they are the same but in the picture you can see the bushings/ bearings, these get dry and can start slowing the motor. If you get into it this far try lubing these bushings and see what that does, it solved my slow window problem. On mine one of the bushings was frozen to the shaft so the entire bushing was turning.
