240D Starter issue?
I was adjusting my idle cable today and started the car several times during the process. During my last start I got in it and turned the key after the glow light and nothing happened at all, not even a click. Tried a few more times and nothing, nothing at all.
I put in a battery I have around that I know is good, still nothing. Put the original battery back in, turned the key and it fired up, but didnt sound pretty in the process. Some grinding from the starter area. Turned it off, fired it up again and this time a few clicks, the motor tried to turn over, and then I just heard the solenoid motor whirling noise. Again I shut it off, tried starting a few more times, heard some grinding, whirling, and sometimes the motor would fire. Now there's nothing again, not even a click. Am I going to be putting in a starter? Thanks!

connections (Clean and Tight)
It's either :
1.Battery 2.Connections 3.Starter (Even though the symptoms present as Starter[Bendix],it may be a bad Battery/connections.) 4.Electrical Portion of the Ignition Switch You have some more diagnostic Due Diligence ahead of you. AZ,Kragen ,O'reillys,Advance,Etc.,Etc. will all test your Battery,Alternator for free.

As in post #2
Re-charge the Batteries Clean the terminals (inspect them to see if they have coroded through some where to). Check the Ground and the Ground strap. Check the Starter Connectons while the Battery is charging. Re-test.

Sounds like the symptoms I had when my starter gave out. Check the battery terminals though...mine had corroded down to a couple of strands.
If you end up having to replace the starter, using a cheat bar with the 14mm allen will make your life a lot easier. |

Thanks for the replies. Turns out it was the (+) battery terminal end. Had it as tight as it goes and it still was loose on the battery. Replaced that and now shes back to normal.
