Adding hardware is probably more than you're gonna do. If that's the case, you can still have fun by adjusting the valves very carefully. Try to get the drag on the feeler gauge the same on all valves at first. Then make them a little tighter for more power. I did that with my 240D 4 spd and it does 0-60 in 17.5 second. I posted a video of my 0-60 run a month or 2 ago.

why don't I just take an afternoon drive over there, take the 616 off your hands before you blow it up, and you just insert the 617, heck, I might even help you do it

A diesel breathes a LOT of air, so using propane/oxygen would get expensive REAL fast because you'd drain the cylinders very quickly. Nitrous does nothing to a diesel.

All in all, a dumb idea. Give the engine to someone that can use it.

You should get about 115hp.
I just laughed at that figure, not to say my car is any more powerful, but because there are production motorcycles with more horsepower

I wouldn't blow up that engine. If it was well maintained, it could still have plenty of miles left in it. Even if you can't get any money for it, I'd still give it away. The 617 will probably have more power than any modified 616, just do the swap now and find a better use for the 616.

If you want to have a lot of fun and tick off a lot of purists, do like the air-cooled VW guys; drain the oil and run it until it won't.

Or for even more fun, take off the pump's governor plate, jam the fuel rack wide open, rig a remote start, stand back and see how high it revvs before it grenades.

Nitrous WILL work on a diesel, long as theres fuel to burn. If you have enough fuel, it tends to help make the pistons gooey! It would likely take its toll on that poor 616 rather fast considering stock compression ratio. Myself, id save it for a future project or make a buck on it.

Skippy~ As for perception: Drive what you like and can afford. Those who don't like it can supply vacuum to one of your components. LOL

If you need parts, I have some!
