Question 83 300D rough shifting when engine is cold.

Need some pointers before I start reading a long thread on

"It's CRITICAL... how you set your transmission's vacuum system on your diesel MBZ..
"

My 300D always shift rough between 1-2 and then delay shifting between 3-4 when the engine is cold, i.e. when I first use it in the morning after standing for the night. The outside temperature is not that cold, may be around 50-60 deg F.

After driving for a few miles or the engine is up to temperature then it shifts like silk. It does not make sense that a mechanical device like the tranny is so sensitive to temp or vacuum change ( due to temp ? )

Any idea is welcome.
