CEL (P0400-EGR flow mulfunction) upon acceleration only

1997 e300 NON turbo with 131k miles. 3 week old issue. checked all vacuum tubes, connections - ok, cleaned the cross over tubing, flaps cleaned- the list goes on.It used to light up on idle - now it's only lighting up when I accelerate and push the accelerator almost past half way point. Car runs perfect otherwise

There are only 2 things I'm debating to replace, either the vacuum transducer attached to the air filter box that feeds vacuum to the EGR, or the EGR itself.

QUESTION: How do I check these components on the bench to make sure that it is bad?

Thanks for the help

IIRC you ought to have a second tranducer controlling the resonance flaps. Swap them and see if the code moves.

I guess if the codes move, it'll be the transducer that is at fault. Is there any data in checking the EGR valve ?

Facing the engine, on right side top of intake manifold make sure that small vacuum hose isnt split, and is still connected. You might also want to take a pipe cleaner and clean out the nipple on the intake manifold. Also, you might want to remove the EGR and clean with Brake Cleaner, it just might not be opening all the way. keep us posted.

On my dot 962 there are electrical current and pressure tests used to diagnose the wastegate transducer so I would imagine the same exists for your dot 912 transducers. Entails measuring current/amp drop at specific ECU pins at different rpms. I don't have that data for yours.

Great idea. I'll do these tonight.

That's ok. I'll swap them around and see what happens. it'll be obvious if the problem follows a particular transducer, then that's the problem.

I cleaned the nipple coming off from intake manifold - which is connected to a transducer on the firewall (drivers side). The CEL stayed off for 2 days, then this morning , upon my wifes lead foot, it comes on again and ofcourse upon acceleration.

The last code it threw was a P0200 ( injector circuit open) . Previous to that, it was a P0400 (EGR airflow malfunct). Different codes, same scenario- acceleration.

I jokingly told my wife that it is operator error.....it wasn't funny in her book
