Sad day at the yard

I found a 1980 four speed 240D some kind of orange that is awesome. Light cream color interior with a near mint interior minus the parts removed. No rust on the body and all body panels were straight as an arrow. Another w123 yellow that was also very nice- clean as a whistle. W124 no rust all panels also straight. A good 20 w126's. No w123 300d turbos however. I would have bought either the yellow or orange w123 for triple the yard price in a heartbeat. Now they are fish out of water gasping.

It kills me to see nice MB's in the yard....its such a waste. Thankfully most all of the ones around here have pretty high miles and are rusty, so they have reason to be there....it eases the pain. :o I think the lowest miles on a MB in the yard I've seen was a 190e with 190,400 something on it.....all the others have been 200k+....many over 300k, even the euro 500SEL I took stuff from recently....it had 330k!!

The sad part is most of those probably have the loop glowplugs. One fails so the engine won't start anymore and the owner decides to get rid of it. :(

Unfortunately its a far too common occurrence. They settle for $120 from the junkyard when $20 could fix the engine and get them $1200+ selling to an individual. Parts cars keep me going, but it hurts to see nice ones in there.

One of these winters when I'm down in Florida visiting my folks - I'm going to bag the return flight and drive one of these home...

That is sad. The good ones are in the boneyard and the crappy ones are on eBay getting 45 MPG.
