W124 92 300D Check Engine Light Won't Go Out

The check engine light on my 92 300D 2.5 with 602.962 engine won't go off.

I've check the eds codes and cleared them (5 and 15 - the turbo/exhaust stuff) and they have stayed off after a drive around.

However, the check engine light is still on. I couldn't find any reference to any other tests for the engine to do with the code reader light. I'm also assuming an a/c issue wouldn't make the check engine light come on, so I haven't bothered with that.

So, with no EDS codes being thrown, how do i find out why my check engine light is on?

Thanks

The codes? No, not OBD, it's just the light that flashes - the self made thingy. Not an advanced thing.

the manual doesn't give you diagnoses for the codes you extracted?

Yes, but I cleared them and it still has the check engine light on, even though the reader is showing no codes.

right.

So, my experience with this comes from much different cars, but since no one else is jumping in here (hint), I'll say what I can.

If you made a homemade jumper to pull codes the ECU may be sensitive to the timing of engagement and dis-engagement of your jumper. (ie.. with key in, w/o key in and in what position etc..)

If the method of actually removing the codes requires the turn of some screw.. you may need to do that at a certain time as well, then return the screw to its original position.

I guess what I'm trying so say is: where is the factory method of extracting these codes? I can't seem to find it in the FSM and Mercedes must have a factory version of your jumper, correct?

Edit: answered above.

jt20, thanks for chipping in.

I do think you're talking about other cars. The 92 diesel has a very rudimentary code situation. It just blinks a light on the code reader and it's very obvious what the codes are. And I cleared them.

What I'm not clear about is whether there are other systems apart from the EDS that might be throwing codes and making the check engine light come on?

Paging Mr Dalton..... Mr Dalton....Bueller.....Anyone....

Thanks

Paul

what light is actually on. My 90 and 93 do not actually have a check engine light.

It's the light that looks like a box of water with ripples at the bottom. Slightly on the left of the steering wheel.

I'm assuming it's the check engine light!

That's the low coolant level light. There's a sensor in the overflow tank.

AAAAARRGGHH! What a dufus!

My initial assumption wasted everyone's time. Assumption - it makes an ass out of you and umption.

So there is not actual 'check engine' light on the 92 300D?

All this time I have been confused as to why I have never seen the CEL on my 93 300D.
