Cool Check timing for injection and timing

I have a 92 300SD and I would like to check the tension for the chain and also check the valves gap, as well as the injection timing. The problem is that I don't know how to do none of this work. Please any suggestions how to perform this task I would really appreciated. If there is a link that you may recommend I would appreciated. I been doing a a lot of reading on this site but I do not see any thing on 6 cyl motor.

I believe your Engine has Hydraulic Valve Lifters so there is no gap that needs adjusting.
If theses PDFs work (they are for a 603.960 engine from an 86 300D) there is stuff about the valve lifters and camshaft timing.

Here is the DIY section of the forum:

Your IP timing is supposed to be set with and electrical setup that screws into a plug hole in ths side of the IP (after you remove the plug itself).

I could not find other information on the timing of the IP.

More Info
In the pdf how the Fuel Injection Pump is rotated while the Engine is running is on page 8 of 89 pages.
The method to time the Fuel Injection Pump is the; Reference Impulse Verfication method (RIV) (there is also some info on the RIV method in our DIY section) on page 16 of 89 pages and on the next page is a diagram of the equipment.
To go to the pdf:

There may be more useful info in that pdf but it got to tedious for me to look for more.

Thumbs up

Thanks a million Diesel911. This is a great information. I'm reading some threads about the Ip system, but this link is the most comprehensive information I have seen. Thanks again and I know other people will benefit from this link as well I am.
