Rusty Costa Rican Voltage Regulator (RCRVR)

Sounds like a great name for a Punk band huh?

But seriously. As of late we've had some strange Dummy Light problems, strange tranny shift problems and now slightly illuminated Battery/Brake light along with a dead battery. Along with flickering headlights during idle.

Upon researching the site for VR woes i found (as usual) an absolute abundance of information relating to my problem.

Got underneath the car today and pulled the old VR from the back of the ALT. I was surprised to see that my VR was manufactured in Costa Rica and the metal contacts are rusted pretty badly all over the unit. My carbon brushes however seem to be decent, acording to the previous posts and pictures i had read.

I'm like a ninja with my Ampimeter and use it every chance possible. I checked the voltage with the vehicle running and it was a steady 12.39, even while increasing RPM's. So i'm assuming the VR has gone bad. Is there any way to jump some wires to this little sucker and test for resistance before purchasing a new BOSCH one from ALLparts here on the site?

The belt seems to be tight, although it's got some age, it is pretty taught.

And FYI, don't by Benz Parts from Costa Rica. (I didn't the previous owner did, and this man was born and raised in Deutchland, shame on him)

I always grab a few voltage regulators when im at the junkyard. They can be installed without removing or loosening the alternator if you have the right tools and alot of patience! The last one i did took me around five minutes to do

MB isn't the only source. Saab, Volvo, Jaguar and several others use the same regulator. I keep a junkyard spare in my trunk for emergencies.

X2. I always have a spare in the car- takes but a minute to change out.
