Exclamation torque converter drain plug!!

Does anyone know how to drain the torque converter on a 1985 300SD. I have been banging my head looking in all the usual places and getting out from under the car, turning the motor, getting back under and looking. can't find the thing!

turn the motor until the 5mm allen bolt is showing through the small opening in the bottom of the tranny.

yes by hand is the only way to get it lined up properly. Or use a flat head screwdriver to turn the TC until you see the plug.

yep thats the correct hole.

There is a plug on it somewhere you'll just have to keep looking.

I rotate the engine via the crankshaft bolt with one hand and feel for the plug to come around with the other hand.

The transmission holds about 7ish quarts. Begin by putting in about 4 or so, then start the car, and add the other 3 while its idling.....go for a short drive, and re-check the level....add small amounts as necessary to bring it to the correct level.

YES! Don't try to add it all at once or most of it will end up on your floor. I learned the hard way...

I hate hunting for the drain. What I do is when I finally find the stupid thing, I take some yellow paint and mark the crankshaft pulley I put a dot at the timing mark. Then next time I just line up the dot and the mark and there is the plug!

I was alone when I first did this. I set up a little mirror angled just right so I could view the hole as I rotated it.

Dually Noted I would hate to have any fluid end up on the floor as it is like $8 a quart for the synthetic
