300d driveshaft orientation of hubs
i have taken apart the driveshaft, un-coupled the splined center so i could replace the center bearing and support. now i am faced with a delema. . .
how should i orient the end hubs (when assembling the splines)to each other ? are they suppose to be exactly the same or are they suppose to be 1/3 turn different ? ? ? ? ? help, its getting dark here in about an hour and i want to get it together tonite. thanks very much davidh 1983 300d turbo

The splines must be reinstalled in the exact same position as they were removed...........because the driveshaft was balanced in that configuration.

yep, and on a 1983 300D the shaft should be marked with a little notch on the front half, and a \ / mark on the u-joint, the notch should line up in the center of that mark on the u-joint.
I forgot about this recently and put one together a few splines off, sure enough it vibrated.....I pulled it back apart, lined it up, and now its vibration free.
