'87 300SDL instrument cluster
Instrument cluster, with the exception of the clock suddenly stopped working.
Cleaned all fuse contact surfaces, including fuses themselves, checked continuity, checked overvoltage protection relay fuse. Had a friend come over with his '87 300SDL exchanged all relays in his box with mine. Also exchanged overvoltage protection relays. His instrument cluster was still working mine is still dead. Am I missing something obvious? Is it possible for the whole cluster to just go all at once? '87 300SDL 260,000 '94 SL500 49,000

I have a 1986 300 SDL and the clock and tachometer stop working, I purchased an over voltage relay from a guy off of the forum and put it in an both are still not working. (The over voltage relay was off of a car with other damages and was working when it was pulled)
The headlights seem ot be dimmer than they should be too... Does anyone have any suggestions that I could try? Thanks, Ron

Oddly enough, (for me at least) it was indeed fuse #6. Apparently a small intermittent hairline crack in the fuse giving a break in continuity. I should have checked on here first, would have saved a bunch of wated time. Thanks for the help!

Same problem, but with my w124 300D 1987
Turns out to be fuse 5 in my car, 8 AMP if you're counting. Strange additional symptom on this car.. when this fuse is blown there are no instruments, and there is a faint buzz coming from the cluster. That goes away when you signal. (Signals still work in this condition). My hunch is the cluster is trying to pull power from wherever it can and turns out to be the relay for the tinkers in the cluster.. And maybe this relay has powered contacts that open when pulled that shut it off or something, hence it releases it, and a buzzer ensues. We'll see if she blows again tomorrow a.m.
