SEM #15043 a close match to my 87 300DT's blue interior

Hi all,

I recall writing down this paint code # from another thread and so I purchased this flexible SEM paint #15043 to paint a sail panel that I bought for a few bucks. I have had the darndest time finding a blue interior in my favorite junkyard, so why not paint it?

After a thorough cleaning, I sprayed it twice with SEM's flexible primer coating spray. Allowed it to dry 1 full hour and then put 2 coats of this #15043 spray paint. I've attached before and after pics (uninstalled). In the final pic, you'll see I drew a red line. Make sure if you do this, paint the back side edge b/c it faces outwards. I got some of it.

Here's what it looks like installed. Note: those two tabs that are notoriously snapped off when removing the said panel were, yes, snapped off. Thus the junkyard guys sold it to me for a few bucks. So I affixed it with contact cement. We'll see if that lasts.

Its sliiiightly lighter in shade but in person, its not that far off. If I shot it with another coat, that might've put it closer to the factory blue.

I hope that helps others who are contemplating this route.

Bob

SEM color coat system

If you get the CORRECT SEM color and follow their application directions...
(with either MB Tex or Leather) you'll not be disappointed!

I did the same thing to the same panel with the same paint and had the same results (how boring!).

Get it right and there won't be anything coming from a mile away!
It is nice to know that folks are thinking about it though.....

Jimmy, my topic is about paint, not with your obsession with badges. I PM'd you, so if you want to discuss, write it there.

Jeremy,

Did you find that the paint was a tad bit lighter than the original interior color? I did not see an SEM paint that was a tad bit darker than this 15043
