1986 300sdl shutoff valve

what is it/ and how does it unplug? the big electrical plug right next to the shutoff valve on the injector pump- i need to move it out of the way to install the new shutoff valve- i just finished reading all those pages on the alda valve- i removed mine and will try driving without for a while- any great ideas on how to cover the shaft that is now revealed after the alda removal?
thanks ted 207-632-6894

Here's your IP (courtesy of Dave):

The shutoff diaphragm is the device that is immediately to the rear of the sixth delivery nozzle...........just slightly below and forward of the ALDA. It's vacuum operated and there is no need to remove any electrical cable from the rear of the IP.

The electical cable at the end of the IP, where the shutoff valve USED to be located on the older OM61x IP, is actually the idle speed control connection.

thanks for that great pic, but- my question was directed at that big black plug right next to the shutoff valve-the wire that goes to it goes right over the top of the shutoff- does that just come straight up or are there some clips to release before?

i think we're not on the same page- i'm not referring to the rear of the pump- i'm talking about the black plug right next to the shutoff, just to the inside of it- i'm just trying avoid breaking an 23 year old plastic connector - i can't seem to rotate it out of the way- obviously my pump is still in the car. not on the bench

now i can be even more clear- it's the control rod travel sensor that i'm referring to- how does that unplug? there's a plastic ring with a tab under the plug- does that need to rotate to release the plug? this is all under the intake and is pretty tight to work on- i don't want to break it- the control rod travel sensor is item #L7 in the mb service manual

I believe you do need to rotate it in order to take it out..I remember seeing it somewhere, but I forget where..Be careful! If it were my car, it would probably break when I took it off..just about everything that is plastic under my hood is baked and fragile

Do you know what it is for? Is it to sense the control rod in the shutoff switch?

sure enough- that plastic ring with a tab on it needs to rotate ccw about 1/4 turn to release the plug- it locks the plug in place- then the plug can be wiggled straight up- amazing how alot of these plastic parts and bolts that haven't disturbed in 23 years can be removed without any real problems- onto replacing the shutoff valve- should be cake
