Thinking of buying 1984 190D 2.2

Thinking of buying this car. It is auto, 190K miles, Ac not working. Body okay paint not good on some panels. Ac ofcourse does not work. The steering does not have power assist, It is very hard. The belt is there and the pump is full of fluid. What could be the problem? The guy wants a $1000 for it. Worth it? The SRS needs to be put back on the steering wheel and some other parts missing. It runs and drives but not very smooth.

From the description I wouldn't pay more than about $500 for it. Bad steering, bad AC, bad paint, bad interior (from steering wheel comment), runs rough, no way.

PowerSteering

Interior not bad. No rust. Paint faded on hood and roof it is silvr. WHat could be wrong with the powersteering? Any one know what other powersteering pump will work on a 190D? Thanks I will probably pass on it doing some calculations fpr the moment really want a wagon.

Just purchased a '84 190D 2.2 from my mechanic. Gotta warn you that you can't be in a hurry to get anywhere. The thing can't get out of its own way, and I have the manual transmission. The automatic just has to be "worse". Love the fuel consumption however. So far, I'm averaging right at 35 mpg. Doing a lot of mountain driving on my commute, so I'm WOT quite a bit on the grades.

I paid quite a bit more than your seller wants, but mine is in pretty much perfect condition. Just a few very minor things here and there. Low mileage too. It was going to be my mechanic's retirement car...it will now be my retirement car.

You've already decided to pass on this one. Good decision. There are better condition 190s out there. You'll pay more, but won't have to dump a whole lot of money into them like you would have to with this one you were considering.

Could you send me some pics of that car or tell me if it looks like this one? http://www.flickr.com/photos/theloneprojects/page5/ If so stay away from that car
