In regards to rear bumpers, is the w123 300TD wagon the same as a w123 240D sedan?

I would say that the mounting holes may be the same but the wagon bumpers have pieces cut out on each lower side for the back-up lights.

The bumper itself is different. Like stated above the wagon bumpers have notches for the reverse lights.

I've seen a wagon bumper installed on a sedan, it fits the same and works fine even if the backing lights aren't connected to anything but you wouldn't want to put a sedan bumper on a wagon (unless you wanted a car without the proper backing lights!)

I replaced the mangled OE rear bumper on my Euro '84 30TD, with my spare US 5-mph sedan bumper. A PO already installed a US bumper in front, and at the time I wasn't able to find a matching rear wagon bumper. I modified/repaired the already damaged & mismatched backup lamps to bolt under the sedan bumper (though I was later told by the inspector that backup lights aren't even required in Virginia)
They do hang down some, but don't look too bad. I just have to be carefull not to back into high curbs and other obstacles.

I had an 83 TD and I still have a 84 300D
the bumpers do not have the same braces that attach under.
The D is designed to attach a little more narrow if I remember correctly.
And, they are at a different angle.

I am sure that w/ a little welding that you could have it on, no problem..

The W123 sedan bumper I installed fit the mounting points of my'84 TD perfectly. And though my wagon was originally a Euro model, it already had the sockets for the US bumper-shocks.

not true. they are the same except for the lighting, as said earlier....

you can use a TD bumper on a D, vice versa, and you can put a TD hitch on a D(the hitch which mounts with the bumper mounts.)

The only thing I couldn't re-use on my TD wa the German Trailer hitch that was attached to my damaged Euro-Bumper. That hitch bolted to the bumper mounts and blocked the 5 mph shock holes. The Euro-bumper actually bolted to the hitch.
This spring I was lucky to find an '83 Euro-wagon in the Virginia Beach Pick-N-Pull. For $100 got the complete set of Euro-bumpers,with all the skirts, boots, brackets and rear lights, including the correct bumper-mounted red Euro foglamp. So my wagon can eventually be converted back to it's original form.

Recently on another thread, there were a number of aftermarket hitches discussed, sold to fit the W123 with 5-mph bumpers.
The best design bolted to the six bumper-shock studs, with reinforcing extensions that went forward and attached to the unibody frame rails.
