Any known experiences or problems with this model in mid-eighties variety?

Normally he would be granted clemency for only having 10 posts, but since he's been a member since 2001 I'm not sure that will happen.

Where is the keeper of the "T" and the "D"? We need a ruling.

Everything that affects a similar vintage 190E 2.3 will also follow for this car, less the engine....

The 5 cylinder diesel is the same as the OM603 6 cylinder used in the 300D and 300SDL. Similar plus/minus issues for the 190 engine, EXCEPT the head is not nearly as prone to cracking as the original "14" heads are on the OM603s.

Just expect the usual problems consistent with a 22 year old mercedes that may or may not have had good care.

Had a 5 speed 190D 2.5 for a while, tight fit if you're approaching 6 feet tall......

Jim

190D

I have a 190D NA which is basicly the same car but a bit slower. Look for rust under the back driver side foot well , same as any other 190. Usual wear and tear stuff , suspension bushings worn , AC control is a bit of an issue with some. Not a lot of room in the rear seats. Bit more sprightly than a 300D NA due to several hundred pounds lighter. Nice size trunk. All in all a nice smaller Benz. Cheers Dan

190D 2.5Turbo

'87 was the only year for the 2.5 turbodiesel engine in the W201 chassis in the USA. Automatic trans only in the USA. 2.65 ratio rearend.

I have converted 2 of these cars to 5-speed manuals. I like that combination, but the rearend ratio is too tall. I currently have one with a 5-speed manual and a 2.88 rearend, but I think I'll swap in a 3.07 to go with the 5-speed.

When the turbo "kicks in", these cars have very good acceleration.
