my 126 keeps locking me out argh!!!

So i have now been locked out of my car 3 times because i leave the keys in the ignition when i am working on it and the doors lock by themselves! This is the only car i have ever owned that does this with the keys in the ignition! This is getting really old. I have been leaving the window down when i have been working on it lately. Is there any way to make the car not do this? Also annoying when you get out of the car and go to get something out of the back seat but the car has already locked the doors!!! It is really annoying! I will decided when and if i want the doors locked.

sounds like a vacuum line is hooked up wrong. i had the same happen to me but my front windshield on the 77 is out so I wasnt locked out. Check the vacuum line config at the mast vacuum switch in the drivers side door

well the locks function just fine.... its just that after unlocking the door if you wait ten seconds they lock by themselves . you can hear the the pump or whatever in the truck turn on when this happens.... its like its programmed with a timer or something

sounds like the lockout protection isnt working

the procedure for checking central locking is on the w126 service disc

could be one of the actuators in the doors

Where can i obtain one of these discs?

W126's do not use vacuum from the engine like the W123's.....they have a separate pump.

Sounds like the switch in the door or something is triggering the pump when its not supposed to.

i will check that....but somehow i think that its supposed to do this i just want to make it not do this unless i tell it to

It sounds like you have a short in the wires from the door switch, probably in the hinge area.

I had a similar problem with my '91 350SDL if I opened the trunk with the doors closed and the keys in the ignition. It was an electrical short but I'm sorry I can't tell you how it was fixed.

if this was the case why would there be a delay in the locking..... it locks approximately 15 seconds after the door is unlocked regardless of the doors or trunk being open or closed

On a SD the pump in the trunk runs to produce pressure or vacuum depending on what is asked for and it keeps running for a little bit until it reaches its max limit then shuts off so if you unlock it it probably runs for 15 seconds until it reaches its limit then shuts down and restarts in the other mode due to a short.
Look at this thread and read post #13. Disreguard post #9 because I left some stuff out in it
