Please if anyone is familiar with e300 1995 diesel transmission and diff.
Yesterday I parked downhill and when I wanted to go in reverse I heard some like grinding noise in the back of the car and it was trying to go in reverse but it did not have enough power. I had to push my foot out the door and push to help it. On the level ground there was not problem driving forward. I thought it was problem with diff. because light ASD is on all the time, but AAMCO person thinks it is transm. problem. If anyone had similar problem , please tell me what you think it could be. Thank you all. ZXDENT |

AAMCO is seldom going to come up with any other diagnosis but a tranny problem. That is their revenue stream after all...........
Parked on hill eh? Fluid level OK?

Its always a good idea to park without any pressure on the transmission, i.e., wheels against curb or apply parking brake in neutral before you go to park. I do this ALWAYS when not perfectly flat. I actually put it in neutral before every park to make sure its not rolling even a little. I've got my wife to figure it out too! (she doesn't understand why I think its important, but she does it so she doesn't have to hear me)

I am in the same boat. My 95 E300D (307K) tranny is on its way out. I was told my the local Mercedes dealer that when a tranny does not reverse.. it is the first sign of it going south. My car engages in reverse albeit after 5-10 seconds. Then I accelerate VERY VERY slowly and it seems to work so far. It drives great in forward gears.
The cost for the tranny rebuild is any where from $1500 to $2500 at indy shops and $4400 at the Mercedes dealer. I am going to push this tranny until I can no longer reverse and then get it fixed. Sorry I can't be of more help. smk_texas 03 ML500 98 S420 95 E300D |
