BROKEN BANJO BOLT, WHERE TO FIND ON A SUNDAY!

Yesterday while replacing the front crank seal in my 83 Benz (and other misc. repairs) I broke a 12mm banjo bolt that was on a short line running from the block to the water pump.

Any ideas where to get a 12mm banjo bolt?

What runs through this bolt? Are there any temporary fixes? This is my daily driver!

Thanks for all ideas. This happened last night and O'Reilly (only store open) didn't have anything..

I can't see any reason why plugging both ends of the line (like with a solid bolt) would be detrimental over the short term.

You might ask the folks at the parts store to look in their brake hardware inventory; lots of calipers use banjo bolts.

Ah, coolant. The hose diameter is so small I wasn't sure.

I'll continue bolt hunt today...maybe I can plug it while picking up the part tomorrow if the hunt goes bad.

You might be able to "borrow" one of the ALDA pressure line banjo bolts, if they are the same size. The engine performance would suffer, but the car would be driveable.

you wont find those in stores(maybe a brake caliper bolt if you're lucky).. either junkyard or get the part # and go to the dealership

Do you have a picture? I have dozens of MB banjo bolts. Which one do you need?

My 85 671 didn`t have that little "U" tube, and other 85`s I have seen in the JY didn`t have it either. so the engine will run just fine w/o it. could just be an 85 yr thing. or maybe a Calif thing, every thing else on the car is different.

I pulled off a couple from some junk engines and installed one but didn`t see any difference in the performance, temp etc...
maybe it is there to purge air from the system. so yeah, you could probably run w/o it

I didn`t install it until the engine had about 300,000mi.

I asked my Indy about it, and he thought it strange it didn`t have one.

I might have one, if it is interchangeable with one from the fuel filter or I also have a complete spare IP here, too.

I am in Seward neighborhood.

I'll PM you my phone #.

also Napa or red rooster may have what you need, in the brake parts section.......
