Lubricate the Linkage. it matters!!!!
Today I had an interesting even.
My accelerator pedal got stuck down. Luckily I was only 1000 feet from the house. I was able to shut down and tow the car back home. The linkage was binding/sticking. I thought I hit all the places that needed to be lubed. The one I missed was the one mounted down low back of the engine drivers side. I started with removing the linkage to the Cruise Control, then the linkage to the egr system. Still binding. Removed the linkage behind the Throttle cable. Hmm.. OK... throttle cable returned to its position. Found the culprit. The linkage that goes Vertical is binding. Lubed the pivot point for the plate. Works like a champ. Lesson learned. Remember to lube all linkage points.. Even the hard to reach ones. Passing the lesson on.

I use spray chain lube. Best would be to pack them with lithium grease but I'm lazy...

I've had the linkage stick a couple times on my 240D, fortunately on a 240D its not that big a deal
My car sat for a year or two, I think water got into the joints and corroded, maybe salt got in too. Its taken 8 or 9 months of driving to polish the linkages again so the throttle is real smooth. I can tell you that PB Blaster is not an acceptable substitute for ATF in the linkages.
