Driving a 1998 TDi Beetle for now, more Mercedes parts on Ebay

Well I actually don't own a Mercedes right now. I've got a 98 TDi Beetle with about 111,000 on it. 5 speed. Got it for $3,250 with Check engine lights. Cleaned the VNT out in the turbo and it runs great now. Nice little car actually. Not anything like a W123, but its like a little sportscar kinda.
Putting some more W123 parts on Ebay, including crossbars! I haven't tackled the Cummins Suburban conversion, but I got a super deal on a 4BT (4 cylinder 3.9 liter) complete ex bread van for $500. No idea on the mileage on the engine but it runs great. truck has about 250K on it. May get to that conversion this winter. I'll be back again someday with a Mercedes I'm sure as I love them. Ebay stuff here: http://motors.shop.ebay.com/merchant/asnowsquall_W0QQ_nkwZQQ_armrsZ1QQ_fromZ

About 7K on belt, done last year. Got 46 mpg on highway when it wasn't running right and going into limp mode. 50 mpg now? I've been changing cars like underwear. Was looking at studded snows, but thats a big commitment. To be honest I'd really like a BMW M3 one of these springs. Guy at work sold a mint 944 turbo with 120K on it for $5500. Just had about $4k of work. Saving his marriage. That would have been a fun ride. My kids fit in the Beetle and love the thing. Will be good for trips to parents camp in NH for $20 roundtrip in fuel. I'd love to see the TDi motor in my 83 Rabbit with a 1000 lbs less weight.

I drive a vehicle styled like the one in the pic - behind the beetle!!!

A beetle would be a step up. It's an age thing I suspect.

My son has said the same thing - he wouldn't be caught driving a beetle - a woman's car, he says.

I was looking at those a few years ago, 9 out of 10 had an engine light for bad glowplugs.

Thats the wifes Minivan, it does what it need to with 3 kids. I'm not sure how the Beetle became a womens car. Guys at work said make sure its not yellow or red as those are womens cars. Funny. Doesn't matter to me, in fact I'm tempted to put a nice big pink flower in the vase on the dash.

At the recommendation of the guy who purchased my 240D I'm going to stick a Rocketchip in it and get the HP up to about 120. I purchased the VAG COM which is really cool software and a cable to connect the laptop to the ODB port and allows you to plot real time data which you choose. Pick what you want, speed, boost, coolant temp, etc....

I loved type 1 Beetle's and this is a whole different beast, but it still has a following thanks partially to Disney. I was at a light the other day and a dad had two little girls and one who was about 2 stopped and started smiling at the car from across the street.

Best part about it is I can use it for a while and still most likely sell it for a profit, all the while getting excellent fuel mileage. And did I say my KIDs love it?
