Looking to bring home a lost 300SD

Considering to look at a 83 300SD for sale. Recently running, but not currently. GP's and fuel leaks are given as problems. 200K miles, interior is worn & smells (could be glass leak), drivers seat beat. Overall exterior has minimal rust, some dents.

I am wondering if I can not get this to a daily driver for a reasonable sum of money, How interchangable is this engine, injection pump, transmission ??

I am not knowledgable of the SD's, but what a place to learn. The car seems to be priced, at a part out price.

Thanks

The engine is a 617, the transmission is a 722.303, don't know about the IP.

You are saying the two engines, trans, and such are not interchangable ?
Sorry for my lack of knowledge here.
My point is that unless I get it back on the road, or part it out, I should forget about "banking" any parts for my '83 300D ?

BTW, Is it a sign that my first response is from toomanybenz....It is what my wife will say...

Thanks,

The 83 300SD engine is the same as the 83 300D, the SD uses a electric sending unit for the oil gauge, and the 300D is mechanical. look at the rear of the oil filter housing.

the eng mount arms I think are different, but just swap them. one eng is a 617.952 and the other is a 617.951.

the 126 uses a electric sender to the spedometer driven off the rear of the transmission. the 123 uses a mechanical cable drive.

the oil cooler lines might be different.

the block is the same, except for a few out side add on`s.

Well I walked away as this is too far from a daily driver, for me and me wallet at this time. Interior with strong musty moldy smell is a total gut job. Again, There are other fish out there for me.
My thought of storing the engine might just be $500 on the shelf for 5-7 years, then try to sell the engine.
I will stick the $500 in to the '83 300D I currently own and be better off.

BTW, who has a amber fog lamp & driver side headlight garage for a '83 300D for sale, ???? Mint condition not required.
