Thumbs down Stripped wheel lug bolt

I took my car to Discount Tires to replace two tires due to early tread wear out...so I got two for the price of one...

Anyway, they managed to strip on of the lug bolts. They chased the threads on the rear hub, but I still need to get a replacement bolt.

No Dice at Auto Zoo, O'reilly, or Car Quest.

Any one have one they want to sell?

Thanks!

That sucks. Usually Discount Tire is pretty good about taking care to avoid those kind of problems.

In my expierience here in Florida they use the impact to remove the bolt, then use a torque wrench to set the torque.

Where did they screw it up? Removing the lug bolts at a high speed, or installing the lug bolts with the gun instead of starting them with their fingers. I always make it a point to specify to start with their fingers before they put that damn impact gun on there and then I WATCH them do it and correct them if they screw up.

Either way they should cover the cost of the bolt. FastLane has them for $4 each plus shipping. Or just go to the dealer and take the bill to Discount.

If theys stripped they they should replace them. I would bet the local NAPA has them.

I was shocked the last time I went to a Tire place as the actually called the Shop Manager and he came out and He was the one who torqued, withe a Torque Wrench; the Lug in my case nuts down and He initialed the work order that it had been done.

Absolutely!... On this particular car (MB) I took the wheels off myself 2 at a time, took them in, had them balanced and put them back on the car myself.

They started the bolt using the impact and the torque stick. I will be bringing in the receipt for the replacement when it gets here.

You are really lucky. My PO managed to strip the hub instead of the bolt.

I hope those lugs found a nice new home. I'm pretty sure they came from a euro 500....

I've never ever had a problem with Discount Tires, and every tire I buy for every vehicle comes from there.
Anybody can accidentally strip any bolt from time to time.......

So Ralphie, new tires you replaced were after your UCA's???

BTW, do you need me to run this aux. fan by your work? I've got the day off....

Yes, I got 4, and the rear tires wore out. They did start on the front and were rotated. Oh well. At least I got 2 for the price on one!
