Vacuum Pump torque specs

Hi all,

I am replacing my vacuum pump on my 95 E300 Diesel and I can't seem to find a remove/replace procedure in my W124 manual. Does anyone know the torque specs for the bolts attaching the pump to the engine, or for the brake booster line to the pump?

Thanks

I do not know the torque, somebody will chime in a give it to you.

I did, however, just replace my vac pump 2 days ago. I tightened the bolts with a 1/4" drive ratchet so I could not get too much torque on the bolts. I just snugged them up in a standard crisscross pattern. I may have went too far with one bolt but left it alone. It got tight then perhaps a little loose... I dunno. I was not paying much attention at the time. Too hot out for my brain to function

Thanks

Thanks you both for your help! I looked in the brakes section of the chassis manual and was able to find the spec for the brake booster vac line connection to the brake booster (30 NM). I am going to use that for the connection to the vac pump as well. Happy 4th!

30nm = 22 f/lb. That's too high. 12nm is the correct torque. I don't like going more than that for any steel bolts in alum. The pump's got a lot of bolts and probably doesn't need to be cranked on too tightly. All the best.

A reasonable value for an M6 bolt threaded into Aluminium is 10Nm.

I used 10 NM to attach the pump to the engine (M6 bolts) I used 30 NM to attach the brake booster line to the vac pump. Thanks.

O.K. I like the 10Nm figure for the Vacuum Pump to TC bolts.

BUT , Did you get the torque figures from "anything" Mercedes?

No, but, I used a calculation which follows VDI-2230 which is highly likely to be the same bolting standard used by MB during the design of most of their bolted joints.
