Another Shakey Question

My '81 300TD shakes pretty harsh (more when hot) in drive, but in reverse, park and neutral it is pretty calm. Would shot motor mounts cause this behavior?

Thanks,
Brad

You might check/adjust the valves. Sounds like they may be tight since it's worse hot.

Might also drop that last "T" or, look out for Jimmy.

Motor mounts first and then check the engine shocks. Valve adjustments are always a good idea

If it has a turbo, check the rack damper bolt.

I've got the newer rack dampener on it - don't know how old it is. I've adjusted on it many times with a little bit of luck. I suppose the newer type can go bad to though.

When I installed a new one it took a while to get it right, very frustrating, but it's good now.

On mine the New Rack Damper Bolt did not have much effect until I adjusted/rebuilt/replaced a list of stuff.
There is several long threads on shaking and what to do about it.

It is hard to see in this pic as the bolt and retaining nut are rusted but you can clearly see the Cylinerical Aluminum part it screws into.

I found a better pic and added it.

Yes, it has a 14mm locking nut and it's a 12mm bolt. Adjust it with a warm running (engine!). Be careful as it's just in front of the oil filter canister.
