300SD valve adjustment question

Hi all,
Quick question, when doing the valve adjustment on a 300SD, how cold does the engine need to be? I see two sets of clearances for the valves, one for a warm engine and one for a cold engine.

The only reason I ask is I'm doing the job in the parking lot at work (I don't have off-street parking), so I kind of have to drive here and drive home.

What do you think? How long should the engine sit before it's cold enough to do the job?

Any info would be appreciated!
Thanks
Jim

Thumbs up

If you ever find a day off in your busy schedule, let the car sit over night and then do your valve adjustment when the engine is COLD

Cheers
Good luck

If you can possibly manage it the rule is ' Stone Cold'..... that is the only safe temperature to most mechanics .....pretty much means overnight like Dan said...
it was also the instructions given in Muir's How to keep your VW alive for the complete Idiot.
