mercedes 300d turbo vacuum lines

i just purchased a 300d turbo and i noticed the a/c only comes out the defrost and the side vents. under the hood by the brake booster there is a 3 way vacuum line in whick only one is hooked up and the other 2 are capped off. when i hook them up, the air switches over to the center vents as it should but i am no longer able to turn the car off. i quess the person prior to me adjusted the vacuum lines so the car would turn off but sacrificed the air going to the defrost. what is actually wrong so i can have it hooked up correct and also be able to turn the car off?

maybe the moderator moved the thread from where you posted to the Diesel forum.

there are a lot on this forum with these cars and have had the same problems.

check your other thread, I added some things.
