IP Timing? Rack Limiter?
How do you remove the rack limiter on an 81 300SD non catalyst car? Also, would incorrect (ie off and out of adjstment) injection timing cause and injector nailing condition similar to the sound of a rod knock? The car has 15,000 on new monarch nozzels.
Thanks for the help!!

Did the Engine make the Nailing sound miles ago when the Injectors were installed?
Where the Injectors completely rebuilt or were the Nozzles only swapped? Camshaft timing since it is related to IP timing which is related to Timing Chain Stretch can all have an effect on Nailing. Low compression. Low Injector Opening/Pop Pressure. One of the Members recently located a single Nailing Injector with a Mechanics Stethoscope. Had that Injector tested and found the Opening/Pop pressure was too low. After the pressure was set properly it ran OK. And, this was with a recently rebuilt set. A little bit of an air leak.

well the car did the nailing it seems before the injectors got new nozzels, it seems to nail or knock louder in the hotter weather. C Sean Watts did my injectors so i am unsure what he ddid although he has a great reputation it seems. I am not completley sure it isnt a bottom end knock though I am going to replace the timing chain and check ip timing if that doesnt help I think I'll just drive her till I have to fix it if the problem isnt easily located and expenive. thanks diesel 911!

I would be curious to know the Timing Chain Stretch.
If the Timing Chain Stretch is not too bad and can be corrected with an offset key; the key does not cost much and the Labor to replace it is less than changing the whole chain. What every you do I think I woud try Timing the IP to see if it helps the nailing. I think Nailing due to something in the combustion chamber normally decreases as the Engine gets up to operating temp. I do not know if tight Valve clearances would cause Nailing or not. I have read of it causing problems when the Engine gets up to operatin temp when the clearances are too tight.

Removing the rack limiter will not help any of your issues. That should only be done after your engine is in good running order.... Replacing the timing chain is the last thing I would do. Like diesel911 says, ip timing and cam timing are good places to start. Also if your car sat for a long time, valve springs might be in order.
