New to Me 83 300D, back to diesel..

After 3 years of not having a diesel. I picked up this one owner 83 300D this morning from NYC. It has 111K on the odometer, everything works, the A/C has been updated to R134 and blows cold, tires look new. NYC dents here and there although the paint is fine. The lady had it for 4 years in NYC after her grandmother passed away at 97. Her grandmother bought the car new in NJ and garaged it since new in NJ and it has every service record from new. She is relocating to Italy and I told her I would take car of her grandma's car. The car is named Janis after her MB song. $1300 well spent.

And I just sold my valve adjustment tools last month! Do I remember how to diesel purge? Remind me, dieselheads, are you guys using Delvac or Mobil 1 these days?

Nice car!
I saw it on craigslist, but two is enough for me right now.
Rare to ever see one for that kinda money rust free and with working A/C.

Diesel Giant has a good write up on doing a purge, but honestly, don't know how much difference it makes. Change all the filters (including transmission), do a valve adjust, and you should be good to go. Some guys love Mobil 1, but lots of others use Delvac or Rotella. It's all taste, but starting in the NE wintertime on Mobil1 5W-40 is great.

Your needles are still nice an orange, so that's a good sign to the accuracy of it. How do the seats feel and how much wear is on the steering wheel?

Seats are beautiful, no cuts, no tears, no aging. The driver's seat a bit spongy but looks great. Here is the short craigslist ad:

1983 mercedes benz turbo diesel - super condition, only 110,000 miles! - $1500 (Upper West Side)
Date: 2009-07-19, 8:17PM EDT

this car is amazing and i hate to have to sell it, but i am moving and need to sign the title over by august 1. it's brown, 300D, super engine, some dents, but was kept in a garage until 4 years ago, and so has little rust. please email me and i will be happy to drive to you to show it to you. perfect for long distances on weekends, or short trips.
Sunroof, radio, leather interiors.
Brown exterior, tan interior.

She said the 12:00 noon appointment was really disappointed when he call to confirm and she told him someone bought it 1/2 hr ago. I hope it wasn't one of you guys!

No wear on the steering wheel, no cracks on dash. The lady was so cool, she drove the car and followed me to CT just over the border. She gave me her cassette tape collection, books on tape, her bike rack, her steering wheel lock column. I then drive her to Westchester where she had a riding lesson and she was telling me about her grandma and moving to Italy, chillin' with her was cool. More pics, woohoo!

That is an incredable find. that would be $15,500 on E-Bay .

I guess these musium pieces do still exist.

STeal of a buy

Lucky Dog!!! Mine cost $2800 and needed TLC in a lot of areas. Mine also had low mileage though and I think we have the best year all around for power and maintenance. Enjoy the ride.

I wasn't going to see it when I thought about the brown color, but I'm glad I did. And yes, it color grows on you and is a color I have never seen before in a 300D. Lady pics not for publication. Sometimes you just get lucky. There is a little rust in the usual places that I will take care off, then clay, polish and detail.

Brown is a good color for the W123's. Brown cars tend to have character Plus, you get you nickname it something like "foxy brown" or " sweet chocolate"
