Exclamation 1987 300TD Head Gasket

Hello all, I bought this vehicle after an electrical fire is as in condition with the stipulation that if the head gasket was blown, I would get a refund (it has #14). Well, I got her running yesterday and after a 2 mile venture, I found antifreeze seeping from the head gasket near the 1st cylinder. I know this is a failure but i am curious about the extent of labor involved in removing the head and having it salvaged. Is it worth the time and effort on a vehicle that has some rust on the rear quarters and near the front jacking points and 321k to boot? I hate to just give up on this endeavour, I love the car but I am also a realist. It runs but has a rough idle and I did have it up to temperature and it did not overheat over 30 minutes running. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Noel

Putting time, effort, and significant money into a vehicle with 321K on the clock...........with body rust............doesn't make any sense and is usually done when there is a personal attachment to the vehicle.

In your case, there is no personal attachment and any more funds that are put into such a vehicle is simply money down the drain.

The general consensus is that the engine is limited to about 400K if it was well taken care of.

Find a better example.

Hi Brian, Thanks for the quick reply. I had a feeling she may be done. I will probably post some of the interior parts and see what response I get before she is sent off for salvage by this guy, I hate to see something of use get wasted! Thanks again Brian. Noel
