Question what does this do

i have a 86 300 sdl turbo and i was wondering if anyone knew what exactly the little button behind the accelerator does thanks ,

That button is the kickdown switch. When you press on the accelerator enough to press the button, it sends a signal to the transmission to upshift... or something like that.

Kickdown switch drops the transmission one (or two) gears, depending upon speed. Good for that burst of acceleration when passing.

If it doesn't click when you press down on it, it is broken.
