^^Rebuilt(?) motor?
See if you can do a compression or leak down test.

So, after many false-starts and deals that went away... Finally bought an 83 240D. Drove the 300d. The power is sufficient for me on the 240d. looking for economy not performance. This one has 180k miles, auto trans, manual windows (nice). A/C doesn't work (oh well). Newer tires. Drives well. Trans shifts great. Been sitting for a while but starts right up and no smoke. Needs fluids changed and some minor stuff. Got it for $1200. Based on what else I've looked at, it seems like a good deal.
Looking forward to making the change to WVO! |

Good news!! A/C works fine. Guy I bought it from didn't know that the knob in the middle had to be rolled to 'C'. Awesome!
Also, it had a vacuum leak on top the valve cover. Hose rotten. (found where to look from searching these forums!) Replaced it (for now) with sprinkler drip line LOL. Is that just standard 1/4" rubber line? I already like driving it! Going to do a compression test on it before spending any $$ on WVO conversion. Ordered the tested from Harbor Freight (also from these forums!). Here are some pics. |

That's just hilarious about the AC! You got lucky on that one. Who knew C means Cold?

Well, changed out all of the short vacuum lines from that diaphragm on top the valve cover (and got rid of my temp sprinkler drip line...) and now it shifts like butter!
Also, went this AM and changed out the front tires. It had that 'steering wheel wobble' that I checked here on the forums and people suggested it was just the tires. Sure enough! Now, it tracks and drives smooth!!! I love driving this car! My dogs love the back seat! Thanks all! |
