87 300 sdl running rough

Though I'd share my experience with my 300 sdl running rough. The car would run rough hot or cold. I was thinking valve timing or injectors or injector pump. Turns out it was the ERG valve. I removed the valve and cut a solid gasket out of a coke can and then plugged the vacuum lune off with a golf tee. The car runs great and very peppy. A bonus was that my cruise control started working due to the increase in vacuum.

That's odd. The cruise control has nothing to do with vacuum.

I am not familiar with your car but a thin piece of Aluminum can easily melt at Exhaust temps. I think I would be looking for something that will hold up to the heat better to block off the EGR.

The Cruise Control is probably working due to the Engine running steady.
