79 - 240D - Can I cap the oil cooler hoses?

Friend is knee deep into this project, and running into major snags. He needed to replace the oil cooler hoses, had a hack of a time getting them off.
He finally got the fitting off, but the hose wont come out (problem one).
He wants to cap them, since he is not using AC. Is this possible? If yes, what size cap?

THANKS!
Marty

It didn't to me....hence the post.
So whether or not you are using AC, the oil cooler hoses must be connected and working properly?

It would depend on the type and design on the thermostatic oil temperature valve. This valve diverts oil to the heat exchanger at a certain temperature. There might be hell to pay if it did not divert the oil back to the other normal passage when it activated to a closed circuit. Safer to loop the feed to the heat exchanger unless the valve is removed or its design setup totally understood.

Anyone know what MB did with that cooling loop and thermostat when they sold a car without an oil cooler? Did they use a completely different filter housing?

Euro 240Ds have no oil cooler and the O/F housing does not have the threaded inlet and outlets but I don't know if you could simply plug the fittings on a US O/F housing. A short "bypass" might be better. Nether of my 240s have oil coolers and I haven't had any problems even when using the AC in hot country.
