Nice idea but the dash where the AC used to be is tacky at best, the "D" after the "SL" needs to go and the tail pipe is crap. I don't care for the splice job he did on the coolant hose so if that is what is meant by 'meticulous', I think I'll pass.

The least he coulda done is get the D straight!! If you're going to do this you can't expect to sell it very easily. I would have a hard time putting so much faith into another backyard mechanic's work. There is also NO information on the ebay page, an actual writeup and real information would be nice rather than mileage from "fun" to "great". Thanks for posting! Just a lot of red flags.

I wonder how long the klima and ovp will last sitting right next to the exhaust turbine. At least he used a 602, bonus points.

No A/C limits its geographical range appeal. I like the general idea.

Yeah, that's why I posted it.

I like the general idea. I don't recall ever seeing another one.

Many, many years ago I dreamed of a VW Cabriolet diesel. I loved my Rabbit diesel, and I thought that would be even better. But everybody laughed and scorned.

Now that diesels run clean there are several diesel powered convertibles on the market. I feel vindicated

In many states, you could never get that registered. I know for sure California wouldn't.

Looks like a $2500-$3000 SL, I doubt he'll sell it with the $10k starting bid.

It looks to me like its got 6 cylinders That would make it a 603.

I bet its quicker than the 380, except maybe off the line.

I love the idea, but some of the work looks marginal. I want to do something like that with a 606 some day

Yeah I think you're right, I read somewhere in the listing it was a 5 cylinder.

That is a lot of money for a funky car. I would be embarrased to drive around with the D melting away on the trunk lid. I would be embarrased to put it on the market looking like that. To me it is an indication of the level of expertise given to the rest of the customization and a huge red flag.

It looks fairly well done, but there's some issues for sure. Where is the engine air filter?! I don't see one. The klima situation is dumb...as is the D falling off the trunk....Interesting though. However, I'd have used a 617.

It has 1 bid, so apparently someone thinks it's worth $10K.

(Might back out after seeing it in person, though.)

There seems to be some controversy as to how many cylinders it has. There are 6 intake runners, so I'm gonna go with 6
