Broke nipple off orifice under hood &%@*(&^
I have been toiling underneath my 300D for a day and a half and have successfully replaced engine, tranny, diff mount and all 4 accessory belts. Unfortunately, while trying to get a wrench on one of the A/C compressor mounting bolts to loosen it up, I inadvertently smoked the (see image below) black dashpot leading into the brake booster. I attempted a repair with some Krazy Glue, thread sealant, and electrical tape but I am certain that it won't work and won't hold even if it does work at first.
Can somebody please give me a part number so I can order a replacement part? 84 300D. I am also open to suggestions for getting the old lines off of the dashpot so I can replace them. Being 25 years old I'm sure they're all brittle and won't come off easily. I do not want to be buying replacement hoses going into the brake booster and vac pump. I just lost my job and can't afford it. Unlike the other vac connections on the car, there doesn't appear to be enough slack to simply cut off the existing hose beyond the nipple and reattach from there. Ahh, the joys of having a 25 year old car as a daily driver.

I'm having a hard time finding it in the EPC but I'll let you know if I do ... right know it's freezing on me. As for the hoses, I usually just gently (very patiently) try to push/pry them back off the nipple using a flathead screwdriver. But ... my advice would also be to be prepared for them to break.

OK, I found it on the EPC, and it looks like the part includes the hoses. There are several part numbers for it, based on year and VIN ... there is one that says "from year 81" that I'm guessing is yours, but I don't want to lead you to buy the wrong part. That # is 123 430 58 29. I'd call Phil and see if he can help make sure you get the right part based on your VIN.

I'm sure you could find the entire hose at a wrecking yard for cheap.

Your welcome! Handsome kitty! My cat doesn't help out with the diesels too much, but he does like riding in the 300D.

Agreed, but it'll be just as brittle, so be careful.

get a hose bard from the auto parts store, remove the hard line from the car, drill out the rubber area where it broke off so that the hole is slightly smaller (you want a real tight fit) than the new hose bard, push in the bard, rattle out any plastic shavings from the line and then reinstall the hard line, reconnect vac hose to the new bard Napa has a nice assortment of hose barbs to choose from. About 1 1/2 years on an identical fix so far.

I broke that on my 300D while working on it, I just eventually swapped the whole hose out with one from the junk yard.

I broke off one of the nipples years ago, bought one from the local independent shop. charge was $52.00 .
Now every time Iam at the JY and I see one, I grab it if it looks close to mine. I think the the little vacuum pod is metered to allow only a precise amount of vac. drilling it out to add a barb would at least get you rolling. Charlie

On my 93, that is the tube that supplies the vacuum to the stop diaphragm on the IP. It is controlled by the ignition key. The main line is the brake booster vacuum supply.
I was never ever going to show anyone on this forum my picture of a repair I did using JB Weld. But since you have a similar issue I'll only show you. I fully expected buying a new assembly but this has held up well and is probably stronger than the original anyway. JB Weld is your friend.

You can buy the entire new hose with that piece on it for only $30. Top of the page Click on Buy Parts and go to fastlane or allparts.
Here is 2 of them for an 84: http://www.allpartsexpress.com/ShopByVehicle.epc?q=1984-MERCEDES--BENZ-300dt--/--L5--998cc--3.0l--Diesel--Fi--Turbo-Brake--Components--Wheels&yearid=1984%40%401984&makeid=MERCEDES+BENZ%40%40MERCEDES+BENZ%40%40X&engineid=1193789%40%40300DT++%2F+L5-2998cc+3.0L+DIESEL+FI++Turbo%40%40300DT&catid=Brake+Components+%26+Wheels%40%40Brake+Components+%26+Wheels&subcatid=Brake+Servo+Vacuum+Line@@Brake+Servo+Vacuum+Line&mode=PA

Found new part locally (with new hoses) for $30. Nice. I was worried this was going to cost me $100 that I don't have right now.
On a side note, my garage cat got beat up by a possum last night. I had to take him to the vet to get him a rabies shot today. Since I lost my job and I don't have the money to take him on as an inside cat, I had to leave him there and try to let them give him away. :-(
