Tranny problem
Hey guys! Im new to this forum so plz bare with me
My dad owns a 1987 Mercedes Benz 300D Turbo Black/Black... but we paid 1500 bucks to get the tranny fixed cause it was leaking. Now the tranny is shifting at higher rpm for some reason. Any1 know how to fix this? |

Sounds like it is not adjusted properly. There is a vacuum adjustment and a cable, both of which need to be right. Did this behavior start with the repair? If it did, is your car now shifting at too high of an RPM, or was it too low before? If the former, take it back to the shop.

The shift points are controlled by the "bowden cable" which is connected at the cruise-control to the throttle linkage. Tighter is later shifts, more slack is earlier shifts.
My adjustment was always to adjust to almost no slack at idle.

If that's not it, it would have to be his evil twin with an identical car. Or maybe his good twin; you can never be sure.

I know where you took those pictures. My friends have a lot of fun around there...pavement tells the stories. Believe it or not, I'm actually a few minutes away from you. The Mobil car wash on Belmont and River Rd is where I'm usually found.
Adjusting the shift points isn't very hard. Should be a matter of adjusting the bowden cable. Someone mentioned already I think. I saw the car earlier today on craigslist..boy was my pocket itching. I would love a diesel to play with...if I sell a 2.8 300e i bought a few days ago...maybe..

The adjustment point is just ahead of the oil filter. Easier if you remove the windshield washer reservoir. It's not the cable that comes in from the driver side, that's the throttle cable. The transmission Bowden cable comes in from the firewall.
If it's shifting at higher rpm, I would think it needs more slack. More tension would make the tranny think you're deeper into the pedal and thus hold lower gear longer. Sixto 87 300d |
