Mineral oil is available at any paint store or hardware store.

This is probably a tough item to find in the local auto store because the demand for supplies related to R-12 A/C work has dropped so much.

If you do a search for "FJC Mineral" on EBay you can come up with a source to at least see what you should be buying. I would stick with mineral oil specifically set up for auto A/C systems and not something from the drug store. That way you get the right viscosity. If you look around you may find a better price, I'm just pointing out the product that I would recommend.

There must be some local car a/c shops that would sell you what you need.

Apparently, this is different than the mineral oil you rub on yourself after a bath for silky smooth skin...

the regular garages close by all said to use PAG. The one specifically ac shop said they could probably get it but the parts guy was on vacation and I would have to wait to next week. Wife is ready to pop out first kid any day, only vehicle with AC is the regular cab pickup. Wanted family vehicle with auto-coolness. Time is short. Other issues have arisen with the compressor. New thread for that I think.

Surely you have a local supply house that caters to the air conditioning & heating trade. They should have it.

I located a quart of FJC 500W mineral oil at a locally owned parts supplier. As previosly stated a local refrigeration supply house should have it. SUNRISO 5GS comes to mind. Castrol makes a quality mineral oil for R-12 systems. I don't know the part number. I would be reluctant to use PAG in a system that may have some residual mineral oil in it. There may be a car dealer with some new old stock. Good Luck.

It is a stock item at NAPA. Note that PAG is _NOT_ for R-12.

Yeah, NAPA has R-12 mineral oil. They also have something called "ester" oil. What is that for?
