Removing 603 engine on 300sdl
Hello all, I just removed the cylinder head from my 1987 300sdl to have it checked out. I think I'll be removing the complete engine to do a complete make over. Everywhere I look it mentions how the engine is taken out with the trans as one unit. I was just wondering if I could take the engine out without taking the trans out. I have a lot of room to get to the bell housing bolts. Is there any reason to take the engine out as a unit? Thanks all, I'll be keeping in touch in this forum with results of the cylinder head condition. I think I'll have to buy another head from one of the members. thanks again.

its easier and takes less time to remove the engine with the transmission than to remove enough accessories to gain enough remove to seperate it. Also when it comes to reinstalling it will be easy and wont be wasting time

thank you very much Oracle. I guess I'll bite the bullet and take the whole thing out. I'm pretty sure I'll be needing a cylinder head, but that's another story.

I called Metric Motors and they want $1950.00 for a reconditioned #14 head. This is a little too high for my wallet. Do you know of another place, maybe on the East coast, which is closer for me.
